Land's end update

Well.... finally this morning we reached our target of land's end where we met up with Geoff another member.. nice surprise!! so far we have done 1700 miles.. we are all well, 3 of us left.
We have been doing most of the mileage in the morning to have easy afternoons.. arriving at our camps at tea time.
We have got loads of photo's and we will be uploading them when we get back as well as a day by day diary.
Posting to the hogblog has been difficult because of internet phone probs.
We will be back on monday!

Stop one complete

We arrived at edinburgh safely. We had a nice pub lunch in shap.fantastic ride up the A6,A7. 250 Miles down.staying for free tonight with kind thanks to lothian bridge caravan park. Early start tomorrow.

Pirelli's & How to Follow

Thanks to our sponsor's Pirelli for the tyres for the journey. The Pirelli tyres are now all the bikes.. this week has given us a chance of running them in a little. We are all organized, final packing will be in the morning. Early night and early rise I think.

We will be leaving Claire House, Clatterbridge Hospital at 9am on Saturday August 1st.

We will be riding up to Preston for a quick stop, anybody wishing to ride a few miles with us, or wanting to wave us off is more than welcome to join us for the first leg.
We are going to try and chart our journey on this Blog. We will state our route and camp also.

Getting ready.




Well, it's now less than a week to go for our 1800 mile charity ride.. we've all been checking our bikes are going to be up for the challenge.

All the tyres from Pirelli are now fitted and have been perfectly balanced.




We have been running the new tyres in this week too.
we've all worked hard this week to minimize any problems once we hit the road.
We have the facilities now to update our hog blog daily during our ride, we will do this every evening.
All that's left to do now is pack!

What is the Red Squirrel Trail Race?

The Red Squirrel Trail Race and Fun Run take place in the dunes and forests of the Formby coastline on May 17th 2009. The event is limited to 300 competitors and entries are only available on the day if the event is not full. The distance of the trail race will be approximately 5.5 miles and will predominantly take place on tracks and footpaths through sand dunes and pine woods, trail shoes are recommended but road shoes will be suitable for experienced runners. The fun run follows a shorter 2 miles route and will be ideal for young children as an introduction to trail racing, both events will start at 9.30am.

Claire House Visit


Today, we visited Claire House. They held an open day and we took the opportunity to see first hand the great work all the staff do at the hospice. It is a fantastic place, fantastic people & a fantastic cause. We hope we raise as much as we can from our 3 events. we would like to raise at least £1000 for each year of the hospices birthday, currently celebrating it's tenth.

What we are doing it for!


Here are Claire House's funding costs.
Whatever we can raise will help somewhere!
Just to put our fundraising efforts into context:
£2,500 will fund a nurse and their costs for one month
£1,750 will provide for the physiotherapy needs of the children each month
£1,500 will give 24 hour medical cover for one month
£550 will provide family and bereavement support each week
£400 will fund our pharmacy and sundry expenses
£110 will cover the daily cost of meal times for the children and their families
£90 will keep our vehicles on the road for one week
£60 will fund play activities for the children and their siblings daily
£30 will fund our hydrotherapy pool for one day

Day 2 Lanark to Inverness Via Loch Ness, Staying in Inverness.

Day 4 Kildary to Fala, Staying in Fala.

Day 5 Fala to Brandesburton via Scarborough, Staying in Brandesburton.

Day 6 Brandesburton to Tewkesbury via Buxton, Staying in Tewkesbury.

Day 7 Tewskesbury to St Austell Via Taunton, Staying in St Austell.

Day 8 St Austell to Bideford Via Lands End, Staying in Bideford.

Day 9 Bideford to Pandy Via Minehead, Staying in Pandy.

Day 10 Pandy to Liverpool Via Shrewsbury, Finish.

Charity Night


As a way of raising more funds for our cause, we are having a charity night where we can raffle off some of the prizes we have accumulated! We have a DJ, Disco, Singer and much more going on. Ticket prices are a reasonable £4. All money raised is going to Claire House Children's Hospice. This event will take place at Norris Green Conservatve Club, Friday July 3rd 2009, 7:00pm!
